Sensorized Buoy GPRS Oil spills H.2.8 Database Applications Environmental monitoring
With the aim of monitoring possible marine pollution situations through remote sensing in protected areas, a moored buoy has been designed equipped with various sensors for the detection of both meteorological and marine parameters (e.g. waves, wind, temperature), and chemical/physical data acquired by an electronic nose specifically designed for the detection of hydrocarbons. The acquired data are sent via GPRS to a central system where they are automatically stored and displayed via a graphical interface. The collecting central system then provides users with tools to enable data mining procedures that can be used for the detection of patterns (e.g. seasonal trends of water quality).
