Confirmed delivery multicast protocol in delay-tolerant and disruptive networks
Celandroni N., Ferro E., Gotta A.
This paper evaluates the performance of the NORM multicast transport protocol, when used in mobile satellite channels that behave as in delay-tolerant and disruptive networks (DTN). Comparisons are made between multicast transmissions with and without interleaver when NORM is used in "confirmed delivery" mode.Source: ISTI Technical reports, 2011

Supporting privacy preservation by distributed and federated learning on the edge
Bacciu D., Dazzi P., Gotta A.
The H2020 TEACHING project puts forward a human-centered vision for adapting and optimising autonomous applications, leveraging users' physiological, emotional and cognitive states. Such a goal can be achieved by building a distributed, embedded and federated learning system complemented by methods and tools to enforce its dependability, security, and privacy preservation.Source: ERCIM news online edition 127 (2021): 38–39.

An overview of some techniques for Cross-Layer Bandwidth management in Multi-Service Satellite IP networks
Celandroni N., Davoli F., Ferro E., Gotta A.
The main purpose of the paper is to present some cross-layer parametric optimization problems in bandwidth allocation over a rain-faded satellite channel, in a unified setting. The fade countermeasure regards bit and coding rate adaptation, and the traffic types addressed are both inelastic and elastic ones. Bandwidth allocation is performed in an adaptive fashion, according to fade and traffic variations. A numerical example for elastic traffic is presented and briefly discussed.Source: ISTI Technical reports, 2005

A Study of Fairness Issues in the Assignment of Bandwidth to Elephant TCP Connections Sharing a Rain-Faded GEO Satellite Channel
Celandroni N., Davoli F., Ferro E., Gotta A.
The goodput of long-lived TCP connections can be maximized in error-prone channels by trading bandwidth for Bit Error Rate (BER). This fact can be exploited in the bandwidth and transmission parameters' assignment, by means of Adaptive Coding and Modulation (ACM), in satellite systems; in such a case, multiple source-destination (SD) pairs actuallySource: ISTI Technical reports, 2006

JER Interim report
Celandroni N., Ferro E., Gotta A.
FT-01 DVB-S2/RCS Adaptation to Mobile Environments is the physical layer counterpart of the homonymous focus topic in JA-2130, and as such it addresses physical layer issues of scenarios identified in JA-2130. In particular, this focus topic role is twofold. On the one hand, it researches new physical layer solutions for the specific mobile environments under analysis; on the other hand, it provides support, in terms of physical layer performance measures, to those JAs which investigate upper layer techniques.Source: Project report, SatNex, Deliverable D5a, 2006

On the applicability of reliable transport protocols in satellite delay tolerant and disruptive networks
Celandroni N., Ferro E., Gotta A., Luglio M., Roseti C.
Delay tolerant networking (DTN) is an emerging technology introduced for deep-space communications to address both very large propagation delay or link disruptions. The DTN paradigm results promising in several satellitebased scenarios where either physical or service interruption might be experienced. This paper focuses on a set of selected satellite-based scenarios, where the DTN paradigm adoption greatly improves the unicast and multicast communications' performance with limited costs in terms of both software add-ons and architectural modifications.Source: ISTI Technical reports, 2011
