Automatic human body morphological measurement from 3D scan acquired with low cost devices
Villa A., Carboni A., Pascali M. A., Magrini M.
In this work we present an algorithm for extracting morphological measurement from 3-D human scans acquired using Kinect v2 devices. The algorithm objective is to provide computation of classical body measures, including height, waist circumference and hip circumference and measures related to the shape, such as area and volume. It is independent from the pose and robust to noise. Exploiting the obtained measures we calculate several indices, such as waist-to-hip ratio and Barix.Source: ISTI Technical reports, 2016

Intelligent approaches to fitness and well-being guidance
Martinelli M., Carboni A., Magrini M., Benassi A., Salvetti O.
The purpose of this research is to offer a complete picture on the use of assistive technologies in general, artificial intelligence and machine learning methods, for the determination of behaviors and decisions aimed at optimizing the analysis of the physical performance of the athlete. The solutions discussed can be merged to implement a system able to propose, automatically and dynamically, training plans linked to the physical and psychological conditions of the athletes. However, the treatment is also addressed to a possible application to different person categories, such as people performing normal physical activities, the elderly, disabled and ore in general people suffering from psycho-motor and muscular pathologies with the aim of improving skeletal muscle physio aspects.Source: Project report, 2018

The ActivAge project is currently exploring heterogeneous IoT solutions for AHA over 9 different European Deployment Sites (DS), in an interoperable network. In this work, we present main features of the DS-RER experimentation, being implemented in the Emilia-Romagna Region (RER, Italy) and mostly aimed at effectively embedding IoT-enabled solutions within the actual organization and practices of regional social and health-care services, to support users over 65 suffering post-stroke conditions.Source: Gerontechnology (Valkenswaard. Measuring the uptaking of digital health platforms on AAL/AHA domain
Juiz C., Bermejo B., Nikolov A., Rus S., Carboni A., Russo D., Moroni D., Karanastasis We., Andronikou V., Samuelsson C., Lievens F., Van Berlo A., Van Staalduinen W., Cabrera-Umpierrez M. F.
This paper presents a method to determine the metrics to assess the uptake of Ambient Assisted Living (AAL) platforms. The different platforms are offering various resources to construct digital health products oriented to Active and Healthy Ageing (AHA) and social health care. This research work is ad-dressed to identify and define which metrics could be Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to be tracked for successful uptake, interoperability, synergies, and cost-benefit analysis of open platforms.Source: ICICT 2022 - 7th International Congress on Information and Communication Technology, London, UK, 23-24/2/2022

SEMI - Sistema Espressivo Multicanale Interattivo
Magrini M., Carboni A., Villa A., Righi M., Salvetti O.
This report describes the project SEMI, Sistema Espressivo Multicanale Interattivo, developed by the Laboratory of Signals and Images ISTI CNR of Pisa in collaboration with MAiC of Pistoia Foundation. This project consists in the realization of an innovative system made up of special gestural interaction tools based on non-invasive technologies, contactless and low cost, which can provide an audio-visual feedback to the movement of the body. In this way it intends to promote, in a playful form, the consciousness of one's ability to nteract with the surrounding environment (proprioceptive system). After a classification of the project in the field of activity of the treatment of autism spectrum disorders, we will give a description of his hardware/software components, followed by the description of the experimental phase and analysis of the data collected at the premises of MAiC Foundation.Source: Project report, SEMI, 2016

Source: Project report, WB@Lucca, 2015

A system for real-time gesture tracking is presented, used in active well-being self-assessment activities and in particular applied to medical coaching and music-therapy. The system is composed of a gestural interface and a com-puter running own (custom) developed software. During the test sessions a person freely moves his body inside a specifically designed room. The algo-rithms detect and extrapolate features from the human figure, such us spatial position, arms and legs angles, etc. An operator can link these features to sounds synthesized in real time, following a predefined schema. The aug-mented interaction with the environment helps to improve the contact with reality in subjects having autism spectrum disorders (ASD). The system has been tested on a set of young subjects and a team of psychologists has ana-lyzed the results of this experimentation. Moreover, we started to work on graphical feedback in order to realize a multichannel system.Source: Tecnologie a sostegno delle persone con disturbi dello spettro autistico, Roma, Italy, 25 febbraio 2016
