Practical course on FAIR Data Stewardship in Life Science

The course on FAIR Data Stewardship in Life Science organised by ELIXIR Italy, EOSC-Pillar Project, the ICDI Competence Centre, and EOSC-Life, in collaboration with ELIXIR Netherlands. Research Data Management basics: why it is essential to take care of data

Properly managing research data is useful for oneself and it is fundamental to create an ecosystem where data can be valued by multiple actors and perspectives. The presentation was given as an introductory and motivational training webinar in which Research Data Management was framed as one of the practices of Open Science. In addition, the steps to be taken to start a proper strategy to design a shared workflow of research data management within CISUP were discussed. More Open, better Science. Towards a new research evaluation system

Open Science is many different things, but first and foremost, it is a more transparent research process based on collaboration and free access to knowledge. Everyone working in science needs to take Open Science practices into account, and especially early career researchers will inevitably need to integrate them into their workflow. This presentation was given during the conference "Supramolecular Chemistry Days for Young Researchers 2021" and it focused on what the Open Science approach means for society at large and for researchers, the advantages for the stakeholders involved, and how a critical issue such as the evaluation of scientific work is being addressed. Etica nella pubblicazione scientifica: Open Access e prevenzione dell'editoria predatoria

"Se ho potuto vedere lontano, è stando sulle spalle di giganti", scriveva Isaac Newton nel 1675 in una lettera a Robert Hooke. La conoscenza scientifica necessita di scambio, comunicazione e collaborazione. Come condividono gli scienziati i risultati delle loro ricerche nel mondo attuale e con le tecnologie odierne? L'Open Access è un modello di comunicazione scientifica che ha lo scopo di superare ostacoli ereditati dal passato, e che si trova a fronteggiare sfide legate a tecnologie e processi nuovi. Esistono buone prassi consolidate ma anche importanti rischi in termini di etica della ricerca, prodotti da distorsioni del sistema della ricerca. Tra questi rischi, in particolare, vi è il fenomeno della cosiddetta "editoria predatoria" che sfrutta il modello Open Access a scopo di lucro. Questo il tema dell workshop Etica nella pubblicazione scientifica: Open Access e prevenzione dell'editoria predatoria, tenuto giovedì 7 dicembre 2023 a Roma, in occasione dell'evemto di rilevanza nazionale "Più Libri Più Liberi, fiera della piccola e media editoria. Il workshop è stato diviso in due parti, una sull'Open Access e una sull'editoria predatoria, in entrambi i casi seguendo il tema di Più Libri Più Liberi per il 2023: il gioco Nomi Cose Città Animali Fiori Piante.

Fulfilling Open Science. Compliance with European Commission mandates and Data Management Plan in CODECS project

The CODECS project aims to improve the collective capacity to understand, assess and foresee the full range of farm digitalization benefits and costs. To ensure the effectiveness of knowledge transfer to farmers, it is necessary to implement a set of actions to make the project's results accessible and retrievable. The project has established a Data Management Plan (DMP) at M6, which must be regularly updated as required by the funding entity. During the training session, the DMP is presented and the obligations undertaken through the funding are examined. Presentation outline: OS in Horizon Europe. Obligations arising from the funding stream. FAIR data. Types of data in CODECS project and their management. Publications. Things to know and to be aware of about scientific publishing. Various. Open Science e finanziamenti europei: come ottemperare agli obblighi nei progetti H2020 e in Horizon Europe

Da tempo la Commissione Europea ha abbracciato l'Open Science e la sua visione partecipativa e collaborativa del lavoro scientifico. Tutti i beneficiari di fondi europei per la ricerca sono tenuti a rispettare le richieste in fatto di Open Access alle pubblicazioni, ai dati o ad altri prodotti del lavoro di ricerca. In concreto rendere disponibili i prodotti della ricerca significa fare scelte ponderate, saper distinguere le alternative disponibili e gli strumenti da usare. Nonché conoscere le motivazioni che guidano la scelta di un modello aperto e trasparente di comunicazione scientifica tra pari. Il National Open Access Desk di OpenAIRE per l'Italia ha organizzato, in collaborazione con il Competence Center di ICDI, un corso indirizzato ai coordinatori di progetti H2020 e Horizon Europe, in cui sono state approfondite tutte le principali questioni su Open Science e Open Access legate ai finanziamenti europei. Il corso è stato articolato in un ciclo di 4 webinar, svolti a febbraio 2021. In ciascuna lezione stato previsto uno spazio per la discussione e per rispondere alle domande dei partecipanti.
